The first visit to Makerere University by H.E. Karin Boven Ambassador of the Netherlands in Uganda has been a happy one. I thank the Netherlands for supporting our School of Public Health to train health professionals for Uganda and Africa.
We have noted misleading messages originating from Mak Guild leadership regarding the opening of the University. All students and other stakeholders are advised that the first semester will open in a staggered manner and using blended methods of teaching and learning as per the schedule (Link below). Students must adhere to this schedule.
Planting trees at the Stanbic Bank Makerere Branch in memory of the late Governor Tumusiime Mutebile with Stanbic Holdings CEO Andrew Mashanda was a great moment. Glad to Honour Makerere’s illustrious alumnus.
Hon. Dan Itungo is a proud alumnus of Makerere University and he has given me invaluable advice on Makerere’s role in Uganda’s development. Thank you, Hon. Itungo for the exciting discussion.
My meeting with Robie Kakonge, Uganda’s Ambassador Designate to Washington has been inspirational. I thank Robie and George Piwang for the wonderful proposals on enhancing Makerere’s visibility and collaboration with institutions and people in the United States.
Branding #MakerereAt100 with Vice Chairperson of Council, Hon. Daniel Kidega, and Council members Dr. Steven Kagoda and H.E. Nelson Ssewanyana, the Vice Guild President. Celebrations for the Makerere Centenary are in full gear.
I have discussed opportunities for enhanced collaboration between Makerere and the MasterCard Foundation with outgoing Country Manager Sam Adele and his successor Adrian Bukenya. The main focus was on youth unemployment and how Makerere can get involved in putting youth to gainful employment.
I held an interesting conversation with Dr. Kremser Roswitha, Chargé d’Affaires of the Austrian Embassy. Austria is supporting research at Makerere to address challenges of climate change, public health and food security. We agreed to diversify our collaboration.
