Prof. Baryamureeba is a Professor of Computer Science and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, M.Sc. in Computer Science, Post Graduate Diploma in Analysing Linear Programming Models, M.Sc. (Mathematics)-Coursework and B.Sc. (Hons) among other qualifications.
He served as Acting Vice Chancellor from 1st November 2009 to 31st August 2012 and under his leadership, Makerere University restructured its academic programmes, instituted financial and administrative reforms, restructured academic and administrative units into a collegiate system, opened two up-country university campuses, improved research output, improved financial performance of the University, and improved the general image of the University.
Prior to this, Prof. Baryamureeba was Director and later Dean of the Institute of Computer Science and Faculty of Computing and Informatics Technology respectively. He transformed the Institute from a small unit with one academic programme, 28 students and an annual budget of USD15,000 in 2001 into a Faculty with 19 academic programmes, over 5,000 students and an annual budget of over USD7Million by September 2005. By the end of his tenure, the Faculty had a budget of over USD10Million; and graduates over 1,000 computing professionals annually.
